Seniors: Prioritise Your Hearing Health with Regular Hearing Tests

Audika Australia: Hearing Health For Seniors

Hearing health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, especially for seniors. As we age, our hearing abilities often decline, which can lead to social isolation, depression, and cognitive decline. That’s why it’s essential for seniors to prioritize their hearing health and get regular hearing tests.

Hearing loss is a prevalent condition among older adults. According to the World Health Organization, over 1.5 billion people worldwide have some degree of hearing loss, and this number is expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050. In Australia, it’s estimated that around 3.6 million people suffer from hearing loss, and this number is expected to increase as the population ages.

One of the most significant risks of hearing loss for seniors is social isolation. Hearing difficulties can make it challenging to communicate with family and friends, leading to feelings of loneliness and depression. Social isolation is associated with an increased risk of various health problems, including heart disease, stroke, and dementia.

In addition to social isolation, hearing loss can also lead to cognitive decline. Studies have shown that untreated hearing loss is associated with a higher risk of developing cognitive issues such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. This is because the brain has to work harder to process sounds when hearing loss is present, which can lead to cognitive overload and damage over time.

Getting a hearing test is an important step in addressing hearing loss and preventing these negative outcomes. A hearing test is a simple and painless procedure that can be conducted by a trained hearing healthcare professional. During the test, the audiologist will evaluate the patient’s hearing abilities and identify any areas of hearing loss.

If hearing loss is detected, the audiologist can recommend appropriate treatment options, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants. These devices can significantly improve the patient’s hearing abilities and quality of life. In fact, studies have shown that seniors who use hearing aids are more socially active, less depressed, and experience better cognitive function compared to those who don’t use hearing aids.

In addition to hearing aids, there are also various other assistive technologies that can help seniors with hearing loss. For example, captioned telephones and TV systems, personal amplifiers, and alerting devices can all help seniors stay connected and engaged with the world around them.

In conclusion, hearing health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, especially for seniors. Hearing loss can lead to social isolation, depression, and cognitive decline, but these negative outcomes can be prevented by prioritizing hearing health and getting regular hearing tests. If hearing loss is detected, appropriate treatment options, such as hearing aids and assistive technologies, can significantly improve the patient’s quality of life. At Audika Australia, we are committed to providing the best hearing healthcare services to our clients, and we encourage all seniors to prioritize their hearing health and get regular hearing tests at our local clinics. Winners are grinners. The Sevo boys have won the day over the Breakers. Final score 1869-1794.

David Battensby had a fantastic win 2-1 in the Presidents Cup while George F Neradilek got the break of the day just one point ahead of Brad Cooke’s second placed break. Unfortunately, these breaks were too hot to mention. What an awesome day we have all had. Thanks again to Club Forster and the Forster Breakers for your hospitality.

GM vs Directors & Staff…Who will win?

Throughout the month of March, the team at Seven Hills RSL will be walking to support Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation and help raise much needed awareness and funds for those living with Duchenne & Becker muscular dystrophy.

Joe Bayssari, our General Manager, has set a challenge for himself and our directors and staff and has vowed to match the number of km’s that our Seven Hills RSL team collectively walk. That means if we collectively walk 400km, Joe himself has to walk 400km! To make things a bit fairer, we have given him a bit of a headstart.

Joe started his 2022 Walk 4 Duchenne on the 1st March and our team will be completing our walk on treadmills located in our Club reception area from Friday 25th March. Joe will be walking each day, at different times of the day to represent that the impact of Duchenne muscular dystrophy is 24/7 and the care required is around the clock.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a muscle wasting condition which predominately affects boys and in very rare cases girls. To date there is no cure.   Any donation no matter how big or small, will go a long way in helping us find a cure for Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy.

Renovation Update / February 2022

Seven Hills RSL Renovation
Stage 1 of our Club renovation is complete and since the new year, works have been underway to build the new concrete footings and block wall foundations, ready to support the new concrete slabs for the future kitchen and dining areas.

Demolition has continued around the perimeter of the old building to clear the way for the new works.

The old roof is being kept for now to keep the site dry and to protect the lower level reception area from being flooded in a big rain event.

Our carpenter has been building the raised floor for the future sports bar area.

Design of the structural steel roof framing is almost complete, to enable the steel to be ordered and fabricated in time for when the concrete slab is poured.

Stay tuned for more renovation updates by keeping an eye on our social pages or visiting the Club News section of our website www.sevenhillsrsl.com.au
